Forget the bells and whistles. Get back to basics.<\/span><\/h3>\n

What makes (and keeps) the successful, successful?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 2014 Winter Olympic Games are underway. This event hasn\u2019t received the level of hype that the 2012 Summer Games did, yet, within the complexities, spin, controversy and fear of terrorism, there\u2019s a simple and powerful thought: Men and women who have dedicated their lives to being the best at what they do.<\/p>\n

For many of the athletes from richer nations, they have benefitted from the intervention of technology to help them do more, run faster, throw further and jump higher. And where their country did not have the weather or the technology, the passion and desire to be the best fuelled their creativity to propel them to the international stage [e.g. The Jamaican Bobsled team of the 1988 Winter Olympics \u2013 and who, by the way are competing in the 2014 Games in Sochi<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Whether they are fuelled by passion, talent or technology, the best of the best focus on the basics.\"Bolt<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

I recall a conversation I had with Don Quarrie, Olympic and Commonwealth champion runner and coach to the Jamaican sprint team, about the focus on the basics to get the slight edge and win the race. During the conversation he discussed how the simple \u2013 but important \u2013 way that a runner gets into the starting block and positions his\/her body could be the difference between first and second place.<\/p>\n

\u201cwhen you add understanding to talent and activity you often get \u2018flow\u2019\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Even the angle that the runners hold their upper body during the first 10-15 meters of the 100 meters can mean the difference between Gold and NOTHING. When I say \u201cgold and nothing\u201d I\u2019m referring to the fact that if you fail to get first, second or third place in an event like the finals at the Olympics… you can be the BEST in your country and amongst the BEST in the world and yet no one will know your name, face or even your end result…… all because you failed to implement the basics as well as the individuals in the top three.<\/p>\n

So, what are the \u2018basics\u2019 for you? What does \u2018good\u2019 look like in order to be MORE successful at what you do?<\/p>\n

\u201cwhat you need is someone to remind<\/b> you that you don\u2019t need to be taught or told…… you need to be reminded!\u201c<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Chances are that you ALREADY know, but aren\u2019t following through as well as you can. <\/strong><\/p>\n

If your first thoughts when I asked the question \u201cwhat are the basics for you?\u201d were<\/p>\n

\u201cI need to go to [X] or talk to [Y], or that I\u2019m asking you to buy [Z]\u201d to find out…….<\/em><\/p>\n

then what you need is someone to remind<\/i> you that you don\u2019t need to be taught or told…… you need to be reminded!<\/p>\n

By this I mean that if you didn\u2019t apply or use ANY of the basics, you wouldn\u2019t have<\/p>\n
